Delicate fabrics do not need complicated treatment, just the right treatment for each type.
Lace
Hand wash in lukewarm water and press gently instead of wringing. Do not rub — the fine threads break easily.
Silk
A silk detergent or a baby shampoo, in cold water. Rinse well and dry flat, away from the sun.
Satin
It survives the machine in a mesh bag on a delicate programme, but hand washing keeps the sheen far longer.
Tulle and mesh
The most likely to snag. Wash it alone or with soft pieces only, and never near an open zip or hook.
Rules that apply to all of them
- No bleach and no fabric softener.
- No tumble dryer.
- Dry flat on a towel, in the shade.
- Iron on the coolest setting, inside out, only if you must.
