A good night starts with the fabric, before the cut. Here is what separates them.
Cotton
The most breathable and the kindest to sensitive skin, and it absorbs moisture. The first choice for summer, though it dries slowly.
Modal
Made from wood fibres, softer and lighter than cotton, and it keeps its colour through many washes. Best if you want a silky feel that lasts.
Satin
A smooth surface that stays cool against the skin and does not pull at your hair overnight. It wants hand washing and shade drying.
Flannel and brushed cotton
For winter and heavily air-conditioned rooms. Choose a mid weight so you do not overheat halfway through the night.
Sizing
Sleepwear should be slightly roomier than your daytime size, without being so loose that it twists around you. Watch the waistband: it should stay put without leaving a mark.
